Our 100% Oak firewood is cut to 16” lengths, split, and allowed to dry, or “season” in a process that keeps the wood free of mud and debris while it dries to the optimum moisture content, usually about 12% moisture. The wood is checked periodically with a digital moisture meter to monitor the seasoning process. Customers often ask, "How many months or years has the wood been seasoned?" This is a misleading answer as firewood can totally dry overnight in a kiln, yet lie in a wet field for two years and never dry to the correct moisture content. If the wood is excessively dry, it burns too quickly and minimizes the heating potential of the wood. Conversely, if the wood has too much moisture, it is hard to light and uses the wood's potential energy to heat the water to the evaporation point before the burning can even take place.
Next, the firewood is loaded into specially designed baskets to ensure an honest measurement. A tightly stacked cord takes up 128 cubic feet, but if you loosely throw the same wood into a basket, you need approximately 160 cubic feet. That’s how some firewood dealers sell a “truckload” of wood that doesn’t exactly stack up to what you thought you bought when you get it home. We frequently hear comments like, “Wow! Is that wood all for me?” and “That’s a much bigger cord than I got from the guy I bought from last year.”

Firewood stacking service is available at an additional charge. Yes, it is hard work but we will do it for you! Please request this when you place your order so that we may schedule additional labor and wheelbarrows for the delivery.
Stacking a half cord is $50.00 and stacking a full cord is $100.00, as long as the final destination of the wood is not hampered by obstacles like steps or angry dogs, is accessible by wheelbarrow, and is 100 feet or less from where we can unload the truck. An example of this is parking in the driveway and stacking the wood in the back yard. Any extreme navigation, hand carrying, or gymnastics may result in an additional charge. Your driver will be happy to give you an estimate upon arrival.
